About Pastor Steve & Stacy

THE MORRIS FAMILY

Pastor Steve and Stacy have a passion for family! Building their family through biological, adopted, and foster children, the Morris family has learned to embrace the fact that family is messy! Sometimes, really messy! But it’s ok!

They want Refuge Church to be a safe place where families can gather on a regular basis and feel the acceptance and love of one another; regardless of the struggles life may give you.

It was while attending an Exponential Conference in 2011, as a lay-leader, that Steve felt God calling him to vocational ministry. At a cross roads, Steve asked God what he was to do. He felt God called him to a season of “training” and “preparation.” Through prayer, Steve learned that the training element would be completing Seminary at Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary while continuing to lead Coast Guard members as an Active Duty officer. Once complete, the family was reassigned to the Houston, Texas area where they plugged into Citymark Church and soon found himself preaching and leading as the Connections Pastor in a bi-vocational role. It was here that Steve realized God had shifted him from the “training” phase to the “prepare” phase. As Steve retired from the Coast Guard, he became a full time vocational Pastor and God quickly began working on him to plant Texas Grand Chapel, which became Refuge Church.

Stacy felt the call to the ministry very early in her life, but felt she missed the opportunity. While at a youth retreat, the speaker one evening called everyone forward that thought they might be in vocational ministry at some point in their life. Well, Stacy looked to the adult leader and asked, “I feel like God is calling me to be a pastor’s wife, is this what he’s talking about?” The leader’s response was, “GIRL! If you’re gonna be a pastor’s wife, you better be called! Get up there!” All these years later, God is still making promises come true. He’s never late!

The Morris family believes that healthy relationships are the foundation for connection and life-change. So much, that they led Small Groups months before Texas Grand Chapel ever had its first Sunday gathering (July 22, 2018).

Having retired after over 25-years in the U. S. Coast Guard, Steve felt God calling him to plant a church and Stacy quickly confirmed it. Soon thereafter, they relocated to Conroe, Texas when Steve was led in the Gospel of Luke in Chapter 14 and verse 23; Go out to the highways and hedges and compel people to come in, that my house may be filled.Conroe is an area of Texas that is fast-growing and comprised of a mix of metropolitan and rural communities leading Steve and Stacy to feel that this was the location He was calling them to.

In 2018, they planted Texas Grand Chapel and in 2022, God gave them a fresh vision to partner with a local Christian Counseling Center and a Coffee Shop—renaming to REFUGE! Refuge Church, Refuge Counseling, and Refuge Coffee. This campus will serve as “one location providing a legacy for spiritual, mental, emotional, physical, and social wellbeing.”
